I have used 30-06 all the years I hunted. If you be shooting flat and a long shot over 150 yds would go with 150gr. Myself I always used the 180 gr. Always like the silver tip winchester. A great match.

I use 2 30 06 rifles and one is a 700 , the 700 is deadly accurate for me . I use lots of different ammo ,but my favorite is regular Remington
off the shelf core lokt 150 grain .
I rarely shoot past 150 yards and prefer in the 50 to 75 range most of the time or less.
I am not the long range guy
p.s. I am about 1.5 high at 100 ….just in case I get crazy and want to reach out a bit

With factory loads I think I'd just try a few different one's and see where I was at. Been a lot of years since I fired any factory ammo other than 22 RF! And a few shotgun shells to get cases! I have always believed there is one bullet most suitable for each cartridge. For the 30-06 it's always been the 180gr as it handles that bullet better than the 308. But then util a few years ago I never hunted with a 30-06. Have had this one around a lot of years but never used it a lot, worth to much money. Well got over that and started using it for elk only. 180gr Hornady interlock works well. I suspect most any brand of 180gr bullet will work well. I wouldn't even try the 150 gr bullet, I suspect to much velocity from a 30-06 and velocity can make a light bullet more fragile. Result could be your a bit off with your shot, hit something you'd like to eat and blow it to h*ll! Much less chance of that with to heavier bullet.

    Default 30-O6 QUESTION .

Here are the ballistics for 30-06 the cartridge OP asked about.
The cartridge in question is listed as pspcl in the chart.
Personally I prefer the 150 ( if it shoots good in the gun ) due to flatter shooting at longer ranges.
Also I gave up on core lockt a few years ago. My gun likes the Winchester Ballistic silver tips.

Don't over think it, shoot whichever you gun likes best. The deer will never know the difference.

    +1

best I've used as well in my 20 years of shooting Remington 700 .30-06 bolt action, and I've tried many different brands and grains over the years

The best I ever found was the Remington Scirocco, which was discontinued for a few years and then brought back last year. It's way to expensive, especially when I get almost identical results with the Winchester Ballistic Silvertips

I sure hope you meant grains and not grams. BIG difference in those 2 units of measure.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
