    a few hundred ….
had a guy ask me if he could and I explained to him that if you stick one in there with an arrow the chances of finding it are likely pretty slim . we aint never located one that ran away after being shot to date I might mention and that's quite a fair number that took lead and were never seen again .

Definitely would have some of your rowdy friends come out who would take a couple of those prime piggies to take to the butcher or to a place that feeds those in need.

You mean shooting one with your deer gun and they run off and arn't found? that seems strange.

most Archery hunters that hunt hogs , get what they shoot !!! now on the ones shot with a rifle, if the shot hits high in the shoulder that hog will never be found dead it will live until it dies of old age or shot again !!! But I know this for sure I ain't never had to chase or look for one shot in head , they drop in their tracks !!!! you shoot that hog between the eyes if got shot or shoot the hog in the ear !!! those are two most deadly shots on hog and they drop in their tacks !!!!

I agree. You can kill them at close range with a 22 with the right shot.

I do shoot most of the hogs I see in the ear neck area and they typically don't go away . but to be sure I shot one right between the eyes at about 25 feet with 30 30 a few years ago and it went down with a bounce and about took me out leaving the area and I had to chase it down for about 75 yards in somewhat open woodland . the body shot ones are not what I typically do and its my bud that doing most of that ,but to be sure in an eradication type scenario we mostly just want them to go away and not come back .
a temple shot (very thin part of the skull i might mention ) with a Crossman pump air rifle will kill a pretty good size animal at close range , I did that quite often when I ran trap lines as a kid . Foxes and raccoons and the other varmits in the traps went lights out one shot that way .a well placed shot with a lead projectile is sure enough quite deadly .

30 06 is what we use at ranges of less than 50 yards and my bud has whacked several 150 plus range hogs in the shoulder area and as we often see , no blood trail and once they hit the thicket and its all thicket we wander and wander looking for sign and never see sign of them again . now mind you I don't lose many and it might be him hitting them bad best I can tell ya .
