I hunt crappie and I think on certain days they are the hardest!
But if doves had guns there would be less hunters in the field!

I have killed 1000s of each and doves are cheaper and WAY EASIER to hunt. The State has public dove hunts around the state. Ducks- you need to know a land owner or belong to a club $$. I hunted through the hayday of dove and duck hunting and could kill a limit every day of the season. We had enough dove fields to hunt every day of the season. We had 10-15 duck holes and could hunt almost anywhere in 3 counties in the 70s and 80s before duck hunting got to be fashionable and the DRs and lawyers took over.
It takes considerable skill to hunt ducks successfully- camo, decoy placement, calling,...ect..

If wing-hunting is what you enjoy and it sounds like you do. Dove is an excellent species to start with and pursue. Good luck.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.

My personnel favorite is squirrel hunting... a little learning curve to not spook them but very fun. I love to follow a creek as quietly as possible. Nothing like seeing one and creeping up on him to get a shot, plus delicious. Easy to get started... hunting liscense, shotgun, and shells... be sure to read state regulations depending on the type of land your hunting... ours require liscense, wma permit when on wma land, hunter orange vest and cap during rifle season(which i wear no matter what because you never know with the yahoos that blast anything that moves in the bushes), and a plug to wear your shotgun only holds 3 shells.... different states are different regulations though.

Squirrel hunting hits home because it's what me and Dad use to do. Good table fair, fairly easy to kill. They are abundant everywhere. Dove's are easy to kill but figure about 6-8 shots per dove :D, they are an ok to eat, usually eat them inside of a jalopeno, and then wrapped in bacon. Grill till bacon is done. Duck's are the hardest to hunt for us, just because we are limited to public land. They require a fair bit of scouting to find them. I love love love the chase and the hunt, and we usually dedicate our time to hunting between November-January here in Arkansas. I think they taste like ****.

I have been owned by pointers since 7-8th grade. I usually travel twice a year out west if possible. I love shooting quail with a dog. I think the desert quail are actually a little better tasting that southern quail. I like to shoot about anything with wings.

Antelope out west are a pretty easy big game hunt. You can pull over, get out of truck, shoot one from road ditch if you want. Or you can make it a good hunt and walk miles, glassing many to find the perfect buck.

Squirrels would probably be the easiest small game. I like to call them myself.

Squirrel hunting is the easiest with or without a dog. But boy it's fun to watch those little dogs.
