    Default Dec. 1

at my lease ….wind is howling moon is kinda large game movement is minimal …..quartering away hog gets it and tracking is not good in the dark on a real light blood trail about 10 yards long after he went 100 plus away . 06 bullet is lodged in off shoulder and entry wound aint dripping . he finally coughed a bit about 20 yards from where he went down the mountain .
that wasn't to much fun getting him out of there and he needed a power wash at the local car wash because of the real thick dried mud on his one side .dec 2 sunday morning went better and I dropped a cull buck in his tracks about 40 yards from the blind . saw a few animals and had a pretty good time .
about my place , the neighbor brought in professional hog trappers and it seems all the real pretty ones went to market . saw almost zero hog sign and only one group of shy ones on the cameras .
the bucks are very aggressive right now on my place and beating up on the bully boy 9 point after taking it for a month from him . he aint looking to healthy and might not survive the rut at this point ,and several are walking around with shrubs in the racks to look intimidating and some are ears back and down in a few photos as well .
and yes I am grilling a heart and liver for some fajitas later today
stay tuned and have a great day .

Good read, cull bucks taste good, and more pork in the freezer, sounds like all is well.I did get amused about the part where the hog went down the mountain,I'm not familiar with Texas mountains, but here in almost heaven Wv,everything we shoot has to be dragged up a mountain.
As I've gotten older,my point of aim has changed,I find myself trying hard for a drop them in their tracks shot, dragging a few up our mountain sides will do that to a person.I do envy you a bit though, putting a few hogs in the smoke house that I didn't have to raise would be a nice change.

I'll second the part about the mountain. I hunt an east Tennessee ridge and river bottom property. If you shoot one in the bottom or it rolls to the bottom it makes for a sweat filled hard job as well to get it to the truck. And yes the ridge is so steep if you shoot one on the side of the hill it will more than likely roll at least part way to the bottom. I shot a buck earlier this year that rolled all the way into the river...no joke...but that is a story for a post of it's own.

    I like those photos!

I have had to power wash a hog also. I have gotten lazy these days on the pigs. If it is under 75 yards I go for a head shot. No tracking required. Sounds like a good hunt. Now the fun begins. Processing.

I almost hate to pull the trigger lately ….lazy and old I guess …..4 hogs and 2 deer and a month to go ….and 2 more deer tags and the hogs are abundant and it makes me apprehensive on trigger pulling ….lol
one thing for certain the power washing thing a bud suggested sure cleans one up nice after its dressed out ….
and to be sure if that hog wouldn't a been trying to get away I would have head shot it for sure ,but it wasn't waiting around and was trying to get under the neighbors fence when I saw it .
I shot a few like that before and they leave about no sign on the ground for a terribly long ways .
