    Default Mass crop

Here in Wv, the acorn crop is absolutely in abundance this year,If all holds true, the deer will have the atvantage over us hunters.Normally we can find an acorn tree that is producing and set up the stand with good results, this year even the pine trees are producing acorns, ( just kidding )
The abundance of acorns even affects the placement of trail cams.Normal trails are all but abandoned as deer only travel for water, feeders are not as attractive ,at least untill the acorns are gobbled up.

Opposite here on our place in Oklahoma.
A late freeze took about 90% of the acorn crop.
That means select trees will be a gold mine.
We actually dislike a bumper crop, to hard to pattern, and they don’t have to move.

Acorn mass is cyclical for sure much like crappie populations are at your favorite lake or reservoir. Last year we didn't have any acorns here in Central N.C., and you could certainly see the affect it had on all fall acorn foraging critters. Squirrels, opossums, racoons and deer raided our bird feeders continuously through the year until about three weeks ago when other more preferred forage became available. I love to see the critters... no doubt...
but glad to see it in a way too, because it was getting quite expensive buying two and three 40 lb. bags of seed per month. Now it's back to the normal one bag per month.

I don't know about agriculture foods for deer ( soybeans ) but acorns seem to be the number one attractive food source here.Ive seen deer leave everything from corn to apples when the acorns start falling.

some folks don't know how the acorn thing works and for sure I am one of them. but that said we only seem to have good acorns in town this year and once you get outside of town there is a small supply if any in most of the north central texas area.
it is the preferred source of food for deer when they are around and yes they will walk past about anything else to get to them .
also worthy of mention is the different kinds and how they prefer some over others .
there is a ton of different oak trees and best I can tell you white oaks are the most sought after acorns by whitetailed deer . I do know some taste much better than others and to be sure size don't matter on acorns either .
I have watched deer go a half mile to a lone oak that was raining lil tiny pea sized acorns when there was oaks everywhere dropping larger acorns .
