I used to soak a double handful of acorns in vanilla and throw them around my stand. It brings them in droves when you do not have a good mast crop. Try it, it works.
Pea size is just about right for deer around here they seem to like the smaller size. I have seen lots of one inch size just lay on the ground but the smaller one's turkey and deer almost fight over them. Maybe it's because they can roll them better to chew them!

They are falling so much in my back yard we need to wear hard hats.
They are like missiles.
Abundant on our property in TN but we are still able to pattern and see deer pretty well. Basically find the oaks in conjunction with travel corridors and you are good to go.

In my experience, even with a bumper crop they have their favorite trees that taste better than the others, and will always go to that one trees until all the acorns are gone. I know of one white oak on a management area close to home that you can see a deer under almost every day regardless of how many have them.
