I'm curious why most people like small calibers for deer but it seems like they prefer larger calibers for hogs? I've had right the opposite in my experience. With the exception of larger than normal pigs (200lbs+). I find small fast ammo is very good on pigs and not so good on big bucks. Just asking not trying offend anyone just curious

Good question I think. I've personally had a 270 split a hogs head and had to later shoot it with a handgun. Hit it while it was looking at me, bullet hit him right between the eyes, run up his skull, over the top of his head, and out. Bleed profusely but kept going. Tracked him for over a mile until dogs hemmed him up. Bone was so thick it just rode up the bone and out. Did the exact same shot about a year earlier with a 45-70 with very different results. Only difference in shoot placement was 45 was about a half inch lower towards the snout. But there is no certainty when it comes to hogs, they are one tough creature.

Interesting post lots of good info.
I didn’t notice the might take hogs thing early on , I don’t know much about the caliber you chose , but if she likes the rifle all is good .
Hogs for sure are tough as nails and can take lead like not much else . One in the ear typically does the deal with smaller calibers though .
Luck to her ....show us a harvest

Hogs can be a tough critter but, I have killed them at close range with a subsonic 22 behind the ear and I have seen them run a mile with a 7-mag in the shoulder.

I went 7mm-08 for my ole lady, then ended up buying myself one cause they are so sweet to shoot and have more than sufficient killing power,
