Thread: Crossbows -- ??

I don't remember the name but I saw one on TV commercial, take that for what it's worth, shoot about a 3-4" group at 100 yards. I know a lot of guys that can't do that with a rifle. If I was in the market I would have to find out more about it.

It really depends on your budget. You can spend as Little as a few hundred dollars up to a couple thousand. If you want a high end crossbow with a cocking device I like ten point. You just basically turn a handle it’s pretty easy. There is others with cocking devices. I’d go to a few bow shops and hind the one that fits you and fits in your budget. Hope that helps.

They are Ravin's... The price point and the exaggeration of shooting those groups at 100 yards does nothing for archery. The fact that the arrow will not carry enough kinetic energy at that distance to pass through and end up wounding more animals...

I hadnt thought of the Sporting goods store for looking up close. Most of my stands have short range shots around 40 to 50 yards, ground stands

Crossbows are a bugger to cock in a treestand with a cocking rope,if your serious about a purchase,be sure to select one that allows for a crank style cocking device,or the battery powered units.When my body decided I could no longer shoot my self bows,and compounds,a crossbow allowed me to stay in the woods.
As far as accuracy,crossbows are not any more accurate than other styles of bows,they do allow for a quicker turn around in becoming efficient.For myself I have a self imposed limit on how far I shoot ,I never shoot over 30 yards,no matter what bow I'm using.

I wasn't suggesting that anyone shoot a deer at 100 yards but, IF it will do that at 100, it should shoot very well at 50 and under.

I have a TenPoint, 0-50 yards it’s deadly accurate. Mine doesn’t have the crank. However it is easy to cock.
Turbo XLT is what I have. Newer models are lighter.

crossbows typically use short arrows or as some call them bolts …..not much punch at any distance
ranges should be well under a compound bow range for efficient kills ….even the super fast ones ...
at least that what I been told ….
