    Default Feeder damage

I went through the tri pod deer feeder period, but every year black bear shoved the feeders over, and most often destroyed the feeder, and even chewed holes in the metal drums.I never considered plastic drums because they would no doubt shred them.
I switched to hanging bucket feeders, but the bear would climb the trees, and literally yank the feeders down, destroying them .Last season I wrapped the trees in barb wire, and placed spiked boards surrounding the tree bases.
after several weeks,it appeared this did the trick, but it was all for naught, the Bears figured out how to overcome the gauntlet, climbed the trees my feeders were in,yanked them down, and basically chewed them to pieces .
This season I'm going to string cable between two trees, and suspend the feeders mid way between them,I'm just about outta options, does anybody have the same problem,if so,have you solved it?

That would do it,but our state law forbids shooting bear over bait, even if it was shot far away from a feeder,if it's stomach content contains feed,it's pretty pricey.

We solved the problem by using 4” inch square steel 20’ above the ground. weld on a 3’ section 90 degrees. Hang feeder off the end.
Weld sharpened rebar 5’ off the ground all the way around.
    It works!
    I’ll post some pics tomorrow.

I t post mine ....bulls and hogs can’t take em out ....but bears I ain’t sure ....being climbers I don’t know about one getting on top of the barrel and chewing , I would tend to think my steel barrels could handle bear teeth , i use commercial barrels though ...not sure ....I know they make shockers for the spinner unit , maybe try one of them ?

When I used steel drums on tripod feeders,( they were industrial drums ) the Bears would shove them over and chew holes in the them.If a bear can get his claws or teeth to catch the lip of a drum, they can do amazing things

When bears around the best method I use is hanging your feeder between two trees using the the steel rope and pulleys. Put the feeder far enough from tree where the bears cannot reach out and grab the feeder. Make the steel cable tight where there is no sag or slack. Hope this helps works for me.

Cable between trees will be how I go,next step would be a steel pole cemented with a bracket welded on to hang the feeders from........lousy bears!
