    Default Auction

At the auction saturday night the seller had a few rifles for bid. The auctioneer ran them, but can't sell. Is this legal?
The first was a 270, didn't say what brand, started at $1,000 and worked down to $600 and stopped. The next was a 10 gauge auto, again no brand name. Started at $1,200 and worked down to $800 and stopped. Said there was a 30/30 and a 30/06, get with the seller if interested. So I looked, asked and didn't like the prices. He carried them back home.

Yes it is legal if he the auctioneer had the right licenses. I have seen ways around this also. Where something else was auction off like say a old sock and the rifle or whatever was just given away with it. That way the whatever(firearm, etc.) was not sold just the sock was.

and I think you can set a low limit on an auction and if the bids don't hit it you can keep your stuff ?

It'd have to be a nice used 10 ga. semi-auto to bring $800+ IMO. Not that there aren't some nice ones out there, I'd just have to know what make it was and that it was worth that much before I laid down that kind of $$$. My turkey gun is worth twice that, but it is the best shooting gun I ever laid hands on. To each his own I guess?

I got an old single 20 that I bought when I was 12 for $15. An 870 20 with 3 barrels for $225 when I was 35. Step dad left me his 20 auto, I'll shoot it before the other 2 now.
