I use them all the time. Sort of like a between thorough cleanings. I just put a little Hoppes synthetic bore cleaner on the first few inches and a little Rem oil on the last part. I hear reports of pull strings coming off ....but I just can't figure how its happening. I have been using like four different calibers for years and years , I wonder if they accidently pick up an undersized one or they turn out a bad one now and then.

I clean them occasionally with rod and cleaners down to bare metal and start over. If I am hunting I leave the bores with some shots down the barrel for consistency. But if I hunt in the rain I will pull one just to make sure no moisture left.

I use them too sometimes when I am trying several different loads. Pull it between each load...then fire a couple fouling shots...then fire for groups. But your not suppose to leave oil in the barrel when shooting so I don't put any oil on when doing that. I sponge out any residual with a paper towel that might be left on it.

I use them and love them. Have a snake for every caliber and gauge I have. Good ole Hoppe's #9 solvent ahead of the brush section and BreakFree CLP on back end. Removes any chance of damaging a crown and I clean mine often enough it keeps the barrels prestine. Even on my shotguns after a day at the range shooting skeet and trap a couple pulls through and shiny and brite.

I also have several and like them fine. All shotgun bores and I had one for every rifle I owned. A quick pass now and then when in the field kept me confident that I hadn't messed up somehow during the day when paying attention to everything but the gun. Small things in the bore can make a big mess. I put them in a mesh bag and run them through the washer when they need to be spiffed up. By themselves, of course. I've had my 12ga for well over 10 years.
