feist's and mountain cur's are popular with my buddies in SEMO but best squirrel dog ever hunted over was a boxer/collie mix back when I was 15. step mom's dog and only good thing about her and her cursed son's. dog would tree them in the yard and would hang close by and wouldn't range to far in front of us when we hunted and was good at barking treed and would follow them if they jumped.
retired now but still love squirrel hunting and eating them. have savage .410/.22 that is perfect gun IMO. can pop them if they are sitting closeby or more often when they are moving you can get them.
We meet up and put 10.00 each in a pot. 1 pt. per squirrel, unless head shot counts 2 pts.(EIGHT IS THE LIMIT HERE IN MISSISSIPPI )Winner takes all money . In case of a tie we weigh the squirrels . (never had a tie after weighing ) A tie then would be broken by who was back to the truck first . Pretty much a fruit jar squirrel hunt . We then cook breakfast on the tailgate . Good southern fun .
eagle sounds like a lot of fun! my buddy and I are the only ones who hunt squirrels much around our place. up and down population but when we get into em good man it's fun. they raised the limit here because so few were after them. now have my son and his buds doing it and gave him my .22 like OP has.

My Cur. Just tuned a year old. Only treed a handful of times this year, but can’t wait for this season.

Had a friend go to" Mark Twain", said the squirrels were big as house cats . Hope to go one day .
Nice. Brings back a lot of good memories. Coons make for great eating. You gonna cook em?
I was raised on wild meat, Dumplings made with squirrel or rabbits. Anyone ever eat blackbird pie, it is wonderful.
