Now you have got me dragging mine back to the woods . Has not been used in several years and most likely not been more than a few times ever . My father-in- law gave it to me before passing . Killed a 6 pt. eight years ago and put it up .Had a flip over scope mount and a "Westpoint " scope. put an old tasco on it .Will be passed down to my first grandson , Nathan . Name: marlin.jpg

At one time, the 30-30 was known for the caliber that was responsible for more deer kills than any other caliber.Im sure that has changed, but it would be kinda neat if it reamerged as a favorite again. My dad bought me and my two brothers 30-30's when we were young,I still have mine, but my brothers let theirs go.

That probably had something to do with there being a lot more of them being used back then. lol
This past season marked the 70th anniversary of my first deer hunt in 1947.
There were also more cars having no heaters in them back then also, such as the one a 12 year old kid almost froze in on that 200 mile trip.
There were also no scopes, or at least almost no scopes, and those that existed were always fogged up for some reason.
Someone once said, (to thine own self be true), and the real truth is weve never had it so good as to the choices we now have.

Have always thought Remington should have made a model 700 30-30 . Would sell a lot ,I would think . 7mm-08 have been very popular .

The fore runner of the 700 was the 721/722 series which were the long and short actions.
They did make them in some of the old popular cartridge choices such as 300 Savage and 35 Rem, but not sure of 30/30.
They made the 760 pump in some of the old ones also.

Mine has an old ...or I should say his , has an old Tasco scope I put on it to replace a weaver that was junk back in about 1978 ....and yes most deer are taken at ranges under 100 and the ole 30 30 was to blame for a lot of expired deer back when . I saw a savage bolt action many moons ago that was a 30 30 ....btw
And I have seen an over and under single shot break open shotgun / 30 30 rifle as well

Several company's manufactured the 30-30, years ago HR had the single shot breakdown, then NEA arms.Contender carries it,I opted for the 7 by 30 Watters for a bit more punch in my contender, but I wouldn't mind owning a 30-30 in the contender.

I just purchased a Marlin 30-30 from my uncle a few days ago! Been wanting one for a while but wanted an older one! My great grandmother bought this gun for a great uncle of mine! I cleaned it up and already killed a doe with it! I will be putting it in the safe to pass down to my boys or grandkids! Now to find me a 45-70 lever action! Lol

I have a savage 30 30 bolt action nice little guns never hunted with it but probably will one day. Remington made a 30 30 700 for a few years. It didn't sell good and had feeding problems. That's why you don't see many bolt guns in 30 30. I also have a remington 7600 pump in 270 and have killed a lot of deer with it and it's a tack driver. I love old guns and have over 50 long guns and the unusual guns are my favorite. I would say the 30 30 still puts a lot of deer in the fridge ever year.
