    Default Lake Miccosukee?

Was wondering if anyone in this area has ever fished Miccosukee or Iamonia. Never see much on here about them.

fished Miccosukee a couple of times last year, nice ramp by Reeves Fish Camp.Eli (spg) at Reeves sells minnows etc, lake had a lot of lilly pads than.
Wife used minnows while I jigged the pads useing white, caught some nice ones, nothing in big numbers to brag about, but still a nice mess.
Havent been down there this year but would think with all the rain the water might be up ???
Seems everybody is going past it to Talquin these days.Never been to Iamonia.
You can call Reeves and Eli will give you a report of whats going on ......

Have not been to Iammonia for several years. Hard to fish but known for large bream and black crappie. I'm sure there are some huge bass in there too. Last time I went I took my daughter, Paula and we caught several bream over two pounds.

I fished both lakes regularly for some years with great success, the fish were plentiful. Iammonia went bone dry except a small creek down the middle two tears back. Anyone with a wash tub that floated took out thousands of fish. Stayed that way for a while, then the ochclocknee flooded and refilled it in about 24 hours along with about 500 acres of plantation land surrounding it. I feel it might take a few more years to come back strong...... Now miccuksukeee is a different story. The corp put in a spill way only by doing so they lowered the water level by several ft. The best fishin hole was the back third of the lake which now is non fishable. This lake is also redefining it self. Both lakes are 20 minutes from me but I've had to many bad days I've decided to give them a few years for their eco systems to restore themselves.....

Lake Miccosukee used to be one of the best lakes in North Florida. Huge bass. Slabs and the biggest CopperHead Blugill anywhere. The Gator Hole that Rawhide refered to is in the back side of the lake. It was like the Garden of Eden. It is impossible to get there without an air boat. and too shallow to suport fish.
An article in the Florida Sportsman
Lake Miccosukee underwent a FWC draw down in 1999 followed by a controlled burn to remove some of the excess organic matter. An improved ramp and fishing pier were also installed. Lake Miccosukee is another prairie lake, like Lake Iamonia, with connections to the aquifer. These lakes tend to be heavily vegetated and shallow, so during drought periods fishing declines but when waters come back up they quickly become prime fishing locations for northwest Florida anglers.
After the Florida Freashwater Fish commision spent millions. It is several feet shallower and the vegitation has consumed over 97 percent of the lake. There may be 50 acres of fishable water. After they distroyed the lake, they built a dock in the deep water next to the dam, its nice if you like dock fishing I guess. The Lake still holds fish, but the biologist have distroyed what it once was.

Thanks for sharing. The "back side" means the east side? I live in tally and am close to Micco. Would like to give it a try some time.

At Miccosukkee they built a lower spillway into the sinkhole on the north end. That is why the lake's level is like it is. It use to be about 3-4' deeper. I loved fishing there when it was good.

I have caught some bigger specs at iamonia. Those two lakes are identical in appearance.
I have heard that Iamonia is again producing the big ones. It is time for me to see if that is so.

The owner is stoned half the time and doesn't sell anything anymore. Waste of a great fish camp IMO!
