Default Are They Biting on North End of Lake Hartwell?

    Hi All.

My grandson is anxious to get his fishing rod out and put some in the boat. Hartwell is closest to us, but I haven't had any time to get out and scout for a good place to put him on some crappie. Has anyone been on the north end, say above Tugalo State Park ramp all the way up to Hwy 123 railroad bridge?

Any tips on location, depth or colors of jigs that might put some in the boat for him?

    Thanks in advance.

    Pappy

Wished I could help you but I never fish Hartwell. Hang in there. Somebody might be crappie fishing that area. Good luck to you guys.

Not too many people post about Hartwell. Must not be a great crappie lake.

I can’t help you with any info because I don’t fish Hartwell but I have heard it’s got some good crappie in it. Seems like every lake is pretty tough right now,the water temps just haven’t got right yet.

I’ve seen guys on YouTube catch them in shallow grass flats in the winter! Which is wild. With warming weather it makes sense though. Sometimes unconventional is the best way!!! Also keep in mind it is typically a deeper clearer lake which makes for great dock shooting. If my memory serves me correctly, the last major crappie tournament on that lake had a winner that was a dock shooter.

Lots and lots of big striper and big catfish in Hartwell. I'd bet shooting docks would be ideal in Hartwell lake. Those crappie gotta hide somewhere. That said....with my style of fishing I'd be looking in the backs of creeks after a good rain for stained waters. Only problem with Hartwell is the backs of creeks could be a looooooong ways.
