    Default Mid-March trolling trip

Rickie(rnvinc) and I (maybe some friends along)are thinking about a 2-3 day trip somewhere south of west KY in March. I fished Oconee as a brand new lake for crappie and bass tourney fished all over the state of GA. (Our granddaughter is named Georgia. Her Mom and uncle were born there).

We both love to troll jigs (and cranks) with or without planer boards. I see some good reports from Oconee along with some nice videos. When will the longline bite pick up in your state and where would we have the best chance at a good 2-3 day trip?
I’m not looking for 3 pounders but nice fish are a must. Is there a better option? My all-time favorite bass lake is West Point with Eufaula (Walter F George) a close second. Just looking for good fishing with reasonable place to stay that is boat/ fishermen friendly.
    Thanks.

Sounds like fun. Good luck Doug. Someone will certainly help. And also report back on your trip please.

According to the guides reports the crappie are running larger size wise to previous years on Oconee. Best motel setup for fishermen is located about 1/4 mile from Lick Creek. It’s a great spot to fish mid lake area. It would be a great spot to also hit other areas of lake to launch from. I’ll get the name and number for you.

The Lodge at Lake Oconee. 706-485-7785. Places close to the lake book up quick during this time of the year.

I will be at Eufaula in mid march chasing them big girls.

But then I prefer Eufaula over Oconee any day, that being said fishing ought to be good at either one by mid-march. Mid March at Oconee I would be fishing the Richland Creek arm of the lake, and Lick Creek...Swords is another good area as well. But be prepared for ALOT of other crappie fishers at Oconee.

For numbers and quality, I'd go to West Point. You'll catch limits of pound+ fish quickly. Veasy, Wehadkee, Wilson, and Maple creeks are all excellent creeks.

I'll be at Eufaula Feb. 12-15th, maybe a couple times in March, then again the week after Easter in April.

I don't longline troll jigs or cranks. I usually spider rig until they get shallow. I'll see enough people trolling to give you a report.

I live right by Oconee. The fronts blowing through a couple of times a week but I’m sure the fronts will start to spread out some and this fishing will really pick up. I’ll start going a couple times a week now and hope the winds aren’t too rough.

I caught my personal best LMB in Veasey Creek on a buzzbait in a club tournament in 1980. 9 pounds 4 oz.
