Default PUSHING MINNOWS ON LAKE OCONEE

I tried a different approach (for me) on Lake Oconee yesterday. I pushed six 16 foot rods with jigs tipped with minnows. I was able to catch 11 good fish before the boat traffic, gar fish and wind sent me home. The bite was good and I missed several good fish. I think I need to practice this technique more often. The water was 82-86 degrees and I trolled .7 mph. I hope you enjoy the video.

Great video!!!! Next time you should try 1/2 with minnows and see if you do better with minnows or without. I stopped using bait about 9 years ago and do good with out minnows. Again good video!!!

I always wondered how spider rigging would work out the back of the boat? What is the main reason for doing it out the front of the boat

It works fine out of the back of the boat. Jim and I fished that way before I started long lining. Obviously if you are alone it is easier to face forward so you can watch where you are going. I guess some would also think the man in front would catch more fish as those rods get to the fish first and before the boat goes over the fish. This past fall I fished out of the back of the boat with a top notch pusher. The catching was good at both ends that day.

Any particular brand/style of pole? What lengths? What size weight and how far under the weight do you want the jig ?

Ours are 16 foot B&M PST163N; 1/2 oz sinker in you slow troll or 3/4 oz if you troll faster. We use 3/4 oz because we troll at long line speeds. I would recommend 1/2 oz sinker if you troll slower than .8 mph. The jig is fished approx. 20 inches below the sinker.
