I just missed you at the ramp, I think. I got there about 0610 and saw a boat headed out just as I went over the bridge - I assumed that was you. SIlver Tundra with veteran tag? I had decided at the last second to just bring 3 poles and try the timber dippin' again. I much prefer catching them single-pole to trolling. I headed to the hazard area at the mouth of the creek. I noticed right off that the fish were not loaded on the trees like last week, at all. I ended up having to "spot and stalk" groups of 2 or 3 fish with the Livescope, and this worked pretty well, as the fish I caught were all big slabs over 12", not a single dink. I ended up with 13 on the clicker, including one 14"+ fattie that I had no scale to weigh, but was at least a pound and a half. I released all fish, as I have plenty in the freezer. The wind got up around 1PM and the waves slapping on the boat made it hard to sneak up on the fish, so I headed home. A good day! Sorry I missed you!
The little gold/chartreuse 1.5 gram JDM jig, and chart/gold/chart 1/24 was the ticket to getting bit again, and I was also using nibbles and slab sauce. I had a couple big fish take my jig and start screaming drag, then the line would go limp as whatever it was had very sharp teeth. No match for 2 and 4 lb test! Gar, maybe?
A guy in a pontoon came driving over to talk to me, to ask what I was catching them on, I guess, and before I could warn him, he smacked a treetop so hard it cut his motor off. He didn't seem to mind and came over for a chat anyway. Those buoys are there for a reason, dude! My Alweld tin has very shallow draft, I only whack one with the trolling motor every now and then, but I can see them real well with the Livescope.
So the fish are definitely off the trees for the most part. I enjoyed my day very much, but next time I'll be pulling jigs, not throwing.
