    Default COMBO TROLL 11/21/19

I trolled for Crappie today on Lake Oconee and caught 18 Crappie 11-14 inches. The water was 57 when I started and 59 when I finished. The bite was good until lunchtime but slowed after that. There are a lot of fish in the channel holding near the bottom yet there are also quite a few fish still on the timber. Charlie Brewer Slider Grubs with a white body and chartreuse tail and Tennessee Shad Curly Tails were the best fish catchers. I trolled .8-1 mph and pulled jigs at a depth of 8-10 feet.

Ya'll need to watch this. A jig failure does not stop this man from getting his fish.

The 'hand catch'... good, lucky and quick thinking. I've never heard of or seen that before. Oh, and you're right. Your buddies would have never believed that fishing story. LOL

I just missed you at the ramp, I think. I got there about 0610 and saw a boat headed out just as I went over the bridge - I assumed that was you. SIlver Tundra with veteran tag? I had decided at the last second to just bring 3 poles and try the timber dippin' again. I much prefer catching them single-pole to trolling. I headed to the hazard area at the mouth of the creek. I noticed right off that the fish were not loaded on the trees like last week, at all. I ended up having to "spot and stalk" groups of 2 or 3 fish with the Livescope, and this worked pretty well, as the fish I caught were all big slabs over 12", not a single dink. I ended up with 13 on the clicker, including one 14"+ fattie that I had no scale to weigh, but was at least a pound and a half. I released all fish, as I have plenty in the freezer. The wind got up around 1PM and the waves slapping on the boat made it hard to sneak up on the fish, so I headed home. A good day! Sorry I missed you!

The little gold/chartreuse 1.5 gram JDM jig, and chart/gold/chart 1/24 was the ticket to getting bit again, and I was also using nibbles and slab sauce. I had a couple big fish take my jig and start screaming drag, then the line would go limp as whatever it was had very sharp teeth. No match for 2 and 4 lb test! Gar, maybe?

A guy in a pontoon came driving over to talk to me, to ask what I was catching them on, I guess, and before I could warn him, he smacked a treetop so hard it cut his motor off. He didn't seem to mind and came over for a chat anyway. Those buoys are there for a reason, dude! My Alweld tin has very shallow draft, I only whack one with the trolling motor every now and then, but I can see them real well with the Livescope.

So the fish are definitely off the trees for the most part. I enjoyed my day very much, but next time I'll be pulling jigs, not throwing.

I think you had a better one. I would have loved to find that tree in your video, or another like it. Next time I am cruising the main river channel for sure.

Also, nice grab on that fish! I about spewed my coffee!
