    Default Trolling Racks

I don’t like the drift master racks!!! Does anybody know someone that’s sell them at a reasonable price?

If you don't like Driftmaster try these.

I have heard great things about them and the guys running it. If I wasn't already running Driftmaster I would go with EZT.

I agree with what Dutch said! I use the EZT and love them! Cheaper than Driftmaster and come in various configurations. Don't remember the address, but he is located on Highway 358, just off I-16. I am sure you can google it!

Problem with most rod holders isn’t the holder itself, but the lack of adjustment enabling you to get the rod tip at the preferred height above the water. Of coarse that can vary depending on the particular rod your using also.
The individual rail mount setups allow for pushing or pulling on the rod holder in order to achieve that. Otherwise your sorta stuck with whatever angle the particular rod holder has been made. Ed Duke of Southern Crappie Rods seems to have adjustable holders on his setup. I don’t know what brand they are, but if you watch his videos you can see all the rods at the same height above the water. I’m sure if you called him he would give you that information.
Ive been in the process of rigging a second boat to use and have been trying different setups. It’s just a plain Jon boat but i want to be able to troll with it also. I made a short bow rail for each side from 3/4” copper tubing and used the small Driftmaster holders with the individual rail brackets on that which work fine. But for the rear i bought Driftmaster look alike on EBay and wasn’t happy with the rod tip height above the water being so high. So again I’m experimenting with building my own setup for the stern. At Okeechobee many of the locals use pontoon boats with lots of just cheap pvc rod holders all around the boat with telescopic rods in them.
They are made by using 6” pvc pipe cut and shaped and sold in the area tackle shops for less than 4 bucks each.
Ive also seen them listed on EBay.
They aren’t really intended for trolling, but i see no reason why they couldn’t be. There is a long slot cut in the bottom allowing for vertical adjustment, a carriage head bolt in that slot helps control twisting when a fish hits. So just yesterday i bought a piece of 1 1/2” wide x 3/4” thick oak and made the base for 5 rod holders for each side.
I painted the wood to match the boat color so I’m now all set to try them. Each holder has a wing nut on the bottom for making adjustments. I can remove the whole setup easily in one piece by removing 2 wing nuts, and of coarse aluminum could be used in lieu of the wood for the base.
Probably not the type look a guy with an expensive boat would want however.

I made my own just like I wanted. I went to a local welder and he made the T bar the height and width that I wanted out of 1 inch aluminum square tubing with Berts adapter plate welded at the bottom. I have 4 different 6 inch Berts track system bases on the front deck and 2 bases on the back deck so I can move my T bars all over. I don't have very good pictures but here are a couple. The PVC has a slot about 2 inches that allows me to lift or lower my rod tips.

Just wondering if you talking about pole holders are if you talking about a transport rack?. If you talking pole holders I like my hi tek rod holders on 18 inch t post. If you talking about rod transport racks I am listening because I try to figure what style I want myself.

Well there you go, that’s exactly the type holder i was referring to in my post above.
What i did different was to use 3/4” painted oak for the base, drilled for the bolts, and my wing nuts are located under that. The carriage type bolt head keeps the device from turning when tightened with the wing nut.
I just used 4.5 inch long 5/16” bolts near each end again with wing nuts for mounting it in place. So that makes my setup much lower to the boat. I might have $60 invested in the whole setup for both sides with stainless bolts.

As for a rod transport system, i have a Driftmaster setup on my other boat which works fine.
But again, at Okeechobee most just use their rod holders on the pontoon boat for transporting rods.
My new Jon boat is only 14’ long, so rod storage with long rods can be an issue without breaking them down.
In this area the lakes are all shallow, 10’ is about as deep as you find in most of them.
Some of the most successful I’ve seen here are the locals with old and very minimal equipment.
Leaders of different lengths can be made up and stored on sections of foam pool noodles.
Then attached to telescopic rods and changed out quickly if necessary.
I have a rack on the new boat that holds 20 of them, and don’t laugh, because they work just fine.
We tend to pay most attention to those having the nicest rigs, but that’s not always smart.

I use these rod transporters from from Driftmaster. I have hauled rods secured in them from Blackshear to Oconee and havn't broken or lost a rod yet.
