I've done some dock shooting and will try it again. I even bought a special rod to dock shoot with, a Denali 6' that shoots great, but the couple times I tried it I only caught a spot or two under a dock. I had heard recently the fish were deep on brush, so that is what I've been focusing on the last couple times I went. Of course, now I have both LiveScope and Humminbird Mega+ SI on board, so finding docks with fish should be fairly straightforward. It is worth it to me to book a trip with a great crappie guide on Lanier to get me started.

I really appreciate all the tips. I know I can drive 2 hrs to Oconee and put crappie in the cooler, but Lanier ramps are within 10-30 minutes from my house, so I am committed (or I should be, lol) to learn to crappie fish on Lanier. God knows I don't have any trouble catching the spotted bass.

I'll also move upriver as suggested above, like to Duckett Mill or Thompson Creek ramps. I want to try to learn the lake one area at a time, it is so big.

Dock shooting is certainly not the only way to catch ‘em, it’s just the most
successful way for me. I’m sure there are Crappie on brush and other structure such as bridge pilings etc. Like you I also am convenient to Lanier (within walking distance), and have been here all my life. Lake Lanier is known for big spots, stripper, and large mouth bass. Is inevitable that on occasion you’ll hook one of these other species while crappie fishing, make sure your line is in good shape and your drag is set properly. Lake Lanier is big you say? You ain’t wrong! 38,000 acres big. Good luck to you.

That is exactly right it was Doug Youngblood. He sure knows Lake Lanier and he is a great fisherman. Thanks for the help, my memory with names is not as good as it once was. Is he still guiding or fishing?

Why comment if you can't contribute something about fishing? Especially on another State's forum.

Thanks Dutch. What seems silly about it is the member that asked the question, that you answered, that was off topic, was actually the person that started the thread so I guess he can do what he wants with his thread. He is kinda of a new member it seems by his date and post count and he may not even know how forums and threads work. I am sure he didn't mean nothing. I was off topic too, talking about the guide Dick Youngblood. LOL.

I guess I did kind of veer off the original subject a little. It was just a second part to what I wanted to know. Excuse my departure from the subject. I often drift a little even when not on a forum.
