    Default Ole Dog, New trick

I have fished for Crappie for 55 years and have never shot docks. This October, I am going to learn a new trick. I have watched every Youtube video on dock shooting and now I practice shooting at home and them the lakes.

Let you know how it goes in October/November.

You’ll do well. It is like shooting those Catawba worms under the willow trees in the river.

I started shooting docks last year. I have been having a blast, and catching some real nice fish. Good luck.

Having the right rod to dock shoot makes a huge difference. If you want some guidance shoot me a p.m. and I'll be glad to share my experience from moderately priced to high in JDM rods as I've gone through over 50 experimenting over the years. Scott

I have been working on shooting docks in my pond. I have decided on an Eagle Claw 5 foot rod and Browning spinning real. It took some practice getting the line release timing down but I got it down. Both rod and real are ultra lite and my line is the High Vis lime 6 pound. I have decided to use the bigger body jigs as they skip much better. My hook is the 1/24 Lightwire hook. I like the skipping and the slow fall of this combo.

Now I am waiting on the Fair to come to town and bring some cool weather.

you will have to practice with different size jigs . some time they like a fast fall and some times they like it slow.i us 6 Lb but some like 4 lb. for clear water 4 works best .i use a 5 Ft docks hooter mostly but i learned on a 41/2 ft rod . have used a7 Ft . t Ft will go futher but for me is harder to controle . i found when you change rods you have to change way you shoot .

Well I see you got one component right. The 1/24 is known as “dock shooter hook”......can’t go wrong with Litewirehooks

Good luck on dock shooting. I just started this year and it is a blast. As good a river fisherman as you are, you will do very well.
