get on youtube and look up crappie fishing, it will give you tons of info.
I have been an avid bass fisherman for years. I want to start fishing for crappie. How do you start? I mean how do you identify water that holds crappie? I know waters that should have bass but I know nothing about crappie. I'm assuming the gear is lighter than bass rods also. Do you use live bait or are there crappie lures that are preferred?
Sorry for my ignorance on the subject.

Welcome to Crappie.com. The easiest way to get a leg up since you are starting from scratch is to hire a guide. Pick the lake you are going to fish the most so you can learn crappie fishing and the lake you are going to fish. Paid the guide for a whole day of fishing and you can ask questions for about 8 hours. He will show you all the different jigs, heads and lures. He will show you how to troll and talk about other methods or try them if you want. This is really money well spent. If you are going to fish Oconee a very good guide is Jody and his guide service is called Crappie Daze at Home. Good luck with your crappie fishing.

NCkenner thanked you for this post
This time of the year is tough unless you can find fish on brush or docks. It's a "summer pattern" now until the weather starts to cool some.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
If you like west point you can just come along with me one day/night
