Default Going to Oconee Wednesday.. but where?

Thinking of trying the north end.. or should I go to south end? Decisions, decisions..

Any reports lately? Taking a friend who does not get out much, and looking to jig and cast rather than troll. PM if you want to keep on the QT.

Went to Blue Springs. Bite was slow but managed enough for supper. Caught mostly suspended fish; junebug/chart and BG Twilight were colors used. I casted to the shallows a lot, but didn't get any spawning fish.

Nice catch!!! WellI fished the dam end and caught some in the creek chanel about 15 feet of water but no size. I got spoiled this winter with the size and the numbers. Hotwater / Jay said it was about to happen but not for me. Did I miss the spawn? I moved here this last fall and I fish it every decent day but like I say Oconee is a lake that will make you humble.

I think this series of cold fronts has delayed the spawn. This was the first time I caught a male starting to get the dark color, and all the females were full of eggs. Surface temp up there was 61F. There were a few other boats mostly fishing minnows but I didn't see much action going on. Typical of a high pressure bluebird day following a front.

I think the spawn is just starting, just my opinion and I'm no expert on the lake. I'm coming back, but this time I am going to the other end, maybe Long Branch and try Richland/Double creeks.

What size fish are you catching?

I was up there last Saturday and we ended up with 25 pretty decent keepers. All females had plenty of eggs but not ready to spawn. One male was starting the dark spawning phase. Only caught 4 trolling. Good luck!

I would say these were average but a few were big fat females 14-15 inches. I only keep 11" or better fish, and throw the rest back. I kept 7 and threw back a dozen small ones IIRC. Kept one small hybrid that was gut-hooked.
