    Default Spider/Long Lining Question

I've been learning/trying the spider rig technique this year and interested in adding long lining to the arsenal of techniques I'm experimenting with.

Wondering if I just ran my little boat backwards with the spider rig still on bow and let more line out, would this be the equivalent of long lining? Shooting for 1mph or little under.

    Thoughts?

Yes your proposal would be considered long lining.

Thanks lcookie I was thinking so but wasn't 100% sure.

Any drawbacks to running this way?

Most I can think of is boat handling. If your TM is at the front with you the boat may want to spin out more as you will be pushing the boat instead of pulling it. Kinda like FWD vs RWD cars. Not sure it will be an issue just thinking out loud.

I think at these slow speeds and the narrow transom on the Gheenoe it will track "ok". Not perfect but might give it a go, haven't had as much luck as I would have liked lately and think maybe a change will keep things interesting. I know spider rigging and pushing works, but why not try something new if I'm not getting into fish is my thinking.

You can longline off the front sides of your boat using those rodholders with the lines going out the back of your boat. You will probably want a few longer and shorter rods to keep some separation between lines though. You don't have to sit and fish out the back of the boat.

I agree with Gabowman, stagger rod lengths out of your rod holders in front of the boat to give you seperation between the lines and use long turns so your lines don't bunch up.
