Thanks for the report water looks good, that is the way I like it. I know you are as young as you fill, But tell Jim fishing with that meet poles it will make you old before you know it
Jim and I fished Lake Oconee yesterday. The water temperature ranged from 49-52 degrees and it was a blustery day on the water. We kept 11 very nice fish ranging in size from 11-15 inches. We were committed to fishing from point "A" to point "B" and not fishing any of the places we had fished on the last two trips. The water we fished in was 25-35 feet deep. Lately the fish have been holding between 10 feet to the bottom and as usual we started trolling our jigs at a depth of about 10 feet. The bite was slow and the weather was unsettled and we knew it was going to be a slow day. At mid-day we changed our tactics. On Monday we caught some good fish trolling shallow. We decided to try that technique again. We ran double 1/16 jigs on the long lines. I shortened up my casts to get the jigs to run shallower. On the 16 foot side rods we pulled out 16 feet of line and set the rods in the rod holders. I estimate we were fishing 5-7 feet deep. The experiment worked and we caught half our fish that way including the two biggest a 14.5 and a 15 inch fish. We did not catch any "throw backs" or "undesirable fish" during this experiment. It doesn't hurt to try new things when things aren't going according to the plan. We also found that the light colored jigs were catching as many fish as the darker colors in the stained water.
Two years ago this week we had one of the best weeks of "catching" that we have ever had. Every year is different and the fishing is a little tougher right now. Don't give up. You can still go out and catch a good mess of fish. Just because we had a slow day don't mean you won't have a good day. I'm sure somebody on the lake "wore em out" yesterday. It is only going to get better. Hang tough!
