Thanks for the report Hotwater!! I am taking off work Thursday to come out to Oconee and those are some of the general areas I plan on trying.
Jim and I started trolling at the Hwy 44 bridge yesterday morning. The water temperature was 46 degrees. We caught 3 good fish right away and then began to catch a lot of small fish. We left and headed south looking for hungry fish and warmer water. We ended up south of Long Shoals and the water was 4 degrees warmer in that area. Later in the day the water temperature climbed to 53-55 degrees. We ended the day with 15 good fish in the 11-15 inch range. The bite was slow and we caught quite a few fish trolling back to the north and not staying in one place. We marked lots of fish everywhere we went and also caught several "undesirable" fish. Our trolling speed was 1 mph. We trolled at a depth of about 10 feet on most of the rods. We also put out two rods to troll 4-6 feet deep. We caught the 15 inch fish using that technique. It was our best fish so far this year. I remember times past when we caught very nice fish trolling shallow. That is why the Tennessee boys like their planer boards. I'm going to employ my planers soon! Dark colors worked well as did the white/chart Charlie Brewer Slider. Good fishing! Hope you enjoy the video.
