Good evening Sir, Please explain what you mean by The fish are still in the woods? Also the fish in the tops of the timber? I'm assuming the Timber would be standing trees. I'm trying to learn the terminology. Thank you in advanced.

In the woods=standing timber and lay downs. When I say the fish are in the tops of the timber that means we are seeing some fish on the graph in the top of the timber usually 8-10 feet below the surface. They are usually up higher in the morning and tend to move deeper as the sun gets higher. Hopefully the fish will move off the timber this month and will be suspended in the water column. That is when the fishing gets good this time of the year. We have had some very good days from Thanksgiving through the middle of December. Sorry for the confusion.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

I have another question for you sir, if you don't mind. You stated the fish will hopefully move off the timber this month. What causes them to suspend in the water column? Is it water temperature? If it is what is the average water temp for them to do this? I hope I'm not bothering you to much sir. Thanks in advanced.

Chad I'm not sure but I imagine their movement corresponds to the movement of the bait fish (shad). I think you will find them moving into the creeks and also up the river. I expect that to begin when the water gets a bit cooler than it is now. Fall fishing is a lot like spring fishing. Others may chime in with a better answer but I like the fishing when the water is about 53-57 degrees. However, that is not to say that you have to wait for the water to cool that much. The fishing is good right now and the water was in the upper 60's Tuesday. I don't mind the questions. The exchange of information is a big part of this forum.
