    Default MONTANA TRIP

My sons and I made a trip to Montana this past week. It was the first time in 17 years that we were all able to make the trip together. We stayed in Ennis, Montana and fished the Madison River for six days. The weather was very cold the week before we arrived and the water temperature was 37 degrees. Our weather was great but the cool water temps had the fish in their winter mode and the fishing was slow. Fortunately, each one of us managed to catch an 18 inch trout and several in the 16 inch range. We rented a truck and drift boat in Bozeman and floated and wade fished. My youngest son Matt (the bearded one) guided on the Madison in the late 90's so he took care of the challenging rowing but we all had to do our part. The pictures are of a bull and cow moose resting in a meadow, a huge heard of elk in the valley, my oldest son Wes with a 18 inch brown trout, Matt with a 19 inch brown trout, me with an 18 inch rainbow and some Montana scenery. I know this is not about crappie so I hope you all are okay with the post. I will get back to the crappie next week Lord willing.

Been to Ennis several times for Elk and mule deer hunting. We camped up on Horsecreek canyon and it is rugged and beautiful country for sure. last time on horseback and the view of the Madison river in the moonlight before dawn was spectacular!

We hunted the islands along the Madison for mule and whitetails flushing them like rabbits and saw herds in the alfalfa fields of hundreds deer but nothing like that huge herd of Elk. Good for you all catching those trout. we saw the boats go by with people fishing like you and always wanted to do that.

I missed this post. Great pictures and some great memories for sure. I have only trout fished one time on the smith river in Va and after driving 12 hours the river was chocolate and Jay are those browns ?
