Default Fall Bite on the Hill

Hard to believe my dad and I have not been on Clarks Hill for any crappie fishing since June, but the long hot summer seemed like it would never end! Finally getting some respectable fall weather and the lake and fish are getting in prime shape. We fished 3 drops of submerged timber in 20-25 feet, caught 45 and kept 33 quality slabs to filet. Most all were caught on 1/16 oz Kalins slow reeled and twitched. Got a lot of strikes on when we stopped the retrieve for a moment and let the jig fall. We had minnows, but jigs were much more effective. A little windy, but otherwise a near-perfect fall day. We left plenty and I am already looking forward to the next trip. Fall has become my favorite season for crappie fishing on the hill. We were also the only boat to launch from the ramp where we put in. Hard to beat good weather, great fishing, and feeling like you are the only boat on the lake!

I am planning a trip over there to try the SC little river before I have my left knee replaced.
