Hey all,
Do ya'll see any relationship between jig sizes and crappie sizes? Does longer bulky jigs catch bigger crappie? Is this a way to cull out smaller fish?

I hope this thread leads to a conclusion of what the big slabs want. But I believe conditions dictate, what they want one time or one lake they might not touch the next time.

In my estimation .... no, not necessarily. I've caught dinks on all sizes of plastics (1.5"-2.5") and yet some of my biggest fish have come on the 1.5" size plastics. Same holds true when using cranks, as you'll catch all sizes on the bigger cranks .... some not much bigger than the crank itself (done that).
The best way to insure you're gonna catch "big/bigger" fish ... fish lakes that are known for numbers of them. Otherwise, you just have to enjoy catching them all and cull out the dinks.
I think Crappie Pappy said it just right.

I think the best way to catch big crappie is to fish with lures that match the size of shad at that point of the year. It seems like you catch more crappie that way just like in bass fishing. If you are catching nothing but small crappie you might have to move and find another school of fish. Sometimes it seems like small crappie herd up together and the big crappie herd up. Sometimes it seems like there are mixed like when they are moving in and out in the spring or after the spawn.
