I remember that lure no one seem to know what I was talking about. It had a white looking spider on it and we caught all kind of fish with it.

The fly inline spinner type lures are great lures. I have caught all kinds of fish with them. They are just like the Johnson Beetle Spins they catch everything and work all the time. Inline spinners and Beetle Spins are great crappie lures and not many fishermen use them for crappie. If you find some of "The Thing" lures let us know how you do with them.

We used to slay the white bass on Lanier with 'em way back when Lanier had a white bass run....Last one's I saw were in the hardware store in Sparta about 20 years ago...Went back 2 weeks later to buy the all, the whole card was gone and can't even find a picture of one on the 'net....

My favorite trolling lure ever. Was an inline spinner with a lead keel on a wire frame. Came with a foam spider with rubber legs. No lure before or since caught more on Lake Talquin. Spiders came white, black, yellow and maybe green. White out caught black 3 or 4 to one. Other colors were not in the game. All of a sudden they disappeared in the 70's. Found an old one in a bait shop in around '77 and it was sold by Columbia or Colombia Bait Co. in Columbia, Alabama. Small town in south Alabama on the Georgia line. I ordered a couple of card full for me and my dad. Tried later with no luck. I still look in the dark holes when I go in an old bait store or hardware store. No luck. Lord, I wish they were made again.

I made request in the Alabama forum for help with the company and lure. Doggonit you got my "wants" kicked up by mentioning this lure!

This lure is easy to make, when they first came out they were $1.95 which was expensive for a one striper GI making 33.00 every 2 weeks .
My father in law and I came up with a way to make them fairly cheap back then. You take a Hildebrandt #1 inline spinner put the fly of your choice on it add 2 split shot to your line about 10 inches from the lure and it works like a charm. You can find the spinners on ebay just search for Hildebrandt #1 single blade spinner , some have 3 in a pack some have 2. You can get the fly just about any place.
