Default Lake Blackshear Spawn has begun!!!

Talked to a couple that decided to try the shallow water a couple of days ago. The husband/wife team told me that they cought a decent mess of slabs in 3 feet of water around the trees. They were up in the Smoke House area dabbin minnows around the trees and had almost their limit. This really surprisesz me cause I would think the weather was too cold. It should be no problem at all catching a limit of good slabs this weekend at Blackshear.

Sorry, but Blackshear is still in post-spawn. The couple was only braggin it up...
Randy, the owner of Radz (bait store) said that Smokehouse didn't produce any slabs, just a mess of dinks...28 total fish between them both which was good for them, but hardly the spawn.

The (slabs) are still in the river channel near 20ft deep as they have been all winter long.

I have camped-out the last 3 weekends strait and fished very, very, very successfully in the deep river channel. The bait fish have rarely been marked above 10ft, and mostly found at 15ft and deeper.

The fish are getting very aggresive and within two weeks they may start moving into the shallows if the weather warms as predicted.

Blackshear Slabfest on March 20th will be a great fishing event as it begins in 2 weeks also Dont miss it....

was at blacksher sat. all morning cough 6 in 4 hrs . talked to several and no one i talked to caught many big fish mostly small to med . from what i have read that size don`t spawn . it is the bigger fish like 10 in or better . with the days getting longer they will start moving up into the shallows looking for spawning ground.

Did you mean pre-spawn? I think the water temp has still got to be way too cold considering all this cold weather we have been having. Just my $ 0.02
I won't be at work........I'm feelin' crappie today!
