Default Asking for Satilla River advise.

So I have decided this year to get more into fishing since my kids are bigger. So I have rented one of the cabins at Deep Bend Landing form May 17-19 (full moon weekend). Never been on that river. My boat is a G3 1652 with a 60 hp. Any advise would be greatly appreciated? Plan on pan fishing and cat fishing but mostly pan fishing. May possibly put out some limb lines. Whats the closed river gauge and what levels are optimal? Many thanks in advance.

    Chris

Your boat with the 60 HP will be OK. Just be careful and slow until you learn the river. Last time I was down a tree was across the river just South of the camp. GOOD fishing and some very good folks own and take care of the place. Good camping also. Check this Guide out: https://gadnrle.org/sites/default/fi...illa_guide.pdf

River level: National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service Good at 7 feet or under.

Pick you up some Satilla spinners in crawdad while you are down in the area. Bream hit them real well in the river.

Thanks for the advise guys. I was sent some pictures of good trip some guys from Swainsboro had recently. Getting pumped up about trying it for the first time. Do you all typically fish up river or down river from Big Bend. Or does it really matter.

Up or down, it does not matter.

That's a great place to camp. We stayed there a few years back and really enjoyed it. It's a rustic place. I would recommend getting bait before you leave town since the camp is alittle ways from town. What we learned from our trip is that the water level is the key to fishing the river. The flood stage is not that high. When we went it was just inside the banks and the sandbars was covered so we didn't get to experience all the river had to offer. Hopefully the river will be at a good level for your trip.

Well I wish I could saw we tore them up. But we did not. Fishing was really slow and the water level was way down. Readings were in 3.5-3.9 feet so it was very hard to get around. Ron at Deep Bend says the perfect level is between 5-6 feet. Will go back if the water levels are right.
