Thanks very much for all the welcomes. I live in Centreville, VA. Retired from the Pentagon about 5 years ago before all of their stupid sequester cuts kicked in. Haven't been fishing in a long time. Going home to NC in September for my 50 year High School class reunion. Gotta go home an see all of those old people. Figured when I go down I want to try some of the spots where my Dad and I used to fish. It was near High Rock Lake. Just been playing around a little to see what works and what doesn't. I do have to say that I really appreciate this one tip that I saw. Actually a very old post about using cooked shrimp to fish freshwater. Afraid to try raw shrimp because when I was growing up my Dad and would always go fish on the pier at the beach and every year I would be using the shrimp and would get my finger near my eye and Blam it would swell up closed. Don't know if it was the raw shrimp or the preservative they put in it. Weird because I can eat shrimp, no problem. Sorry to ramble, but I tried the method that the guy Croppy had posted about getting the frozen cooked shrimp, cutting into small pieces and soaking overnight in very salty water and the rinsing and storing. Went out this past weekend anxious to try and caught a very nice size Bluegill using his method of tipping a jig with the small piece of shrimp about 2 foot from shore. Also put of a double hook rig and kept getting lots of bites , but didn't catch any. Now I can use shrimp and not have to worry. gonna have fun checking out out all of the tips and advice here.

Thanks. I was Air Force. Didn't retire. Got out after 11 1/2 years. Whole existence was Bolling AFB in DC right out of basic, Vietnam, Bolling again, and then the Pentagon. Then the AF tried to send me to Plattsburg, NY, almost to Canada. Decided I didn't want to go there. Worked several years as a locksmith in Northern Virginia then went back to the Pentagon as a civilian. Retired from there 5 years ago and just work part time at the same lock company when they need me to fill in. Talk to you later.
