Default Two more tips for newbies

If you want to "quote" another member:

Do NOT use the "quick reply" button at the bottom of the page. This will not allow you to "quote" another member. Instead, just click on the "quote" button in the bottom right corner of his post. This will create a reply with his words in quotations. If you want to reply to only a portion of what he said, you can just delete the extra words.

If you start a thread, pay attention to the title and which forum you post it to:

1. If you have a very specific question, like "how's the fishing on Lake X?", you'll probably get a better (and faster) response if you post to the state board where Lake X is located rather than the main board. Likewise, if you have a "bass" question or an "electronics" question, there are separate boards for those topics.

2. Make sure the thread title is as descriptive as possible. I've seen threads here and on other boards where the thread title had nothing to do with the topic. Usually, people won't respond to a topic if the title doesn't grab them. (I know I don't.)

Happy posting!

Thanks for the info, I have been wondering how to do this, and I had to try it.:D I have another question, say there is a question on a state board it has already been answered but is in the archives. How do I quote what is in the archives and post it on a state board? I hope this makes sense.

If I understand you correctly, try this:

First, open up a second Internet Explorer and log in to crappie.com a second time. (So, you will have two browsers open, and you will be logged on to c.com in both of them.) In one of the browsers, find the post you want to quote and click on the "quote" button. Then, highlight the quote, right click your mouse and hit copy.

Second, start a thread in the 2nd version of c.com you have open. Click on "paste", and the complete quote of that person will be transferred to the new thread.

I don't do this very often, but when I do, I also copy and paste the link to the thread itself. Here is an example of what I've just described:

Let me know if that did not answer your question of if it's still not clear.

Close but no cigar!

If you quote someone but then delete some of the words (as I often do), be careful not to delete the QUOTE and the related brackets at the beginning and end.

It didn't work. I went to the archives and tried to copy the bandit chart, and paste it one the louisiana board for a guy asking about pulling cranks. The first time abunch of junk was pasted, but no picture so I deleted the reply. The second time I just tried to copy and paste the link. It worked, but when I clicked on the link a totally different page appeared, no picture and no bandit info. The stuff in the archives does not have a quote button in the box. Sorry to keep bugging you but I would like to learn how to do this so maybe I could help someone else because ya'll have helped me so much.

Here's how I do it:

Open two versions of Crappie.com - one with your open post & one with the post you want to copy something from.
Right click on the very bottom border of the screen - bringing up a menu - choose "Show Windows Side by Side" and left click on that (keep trying, as it sometimes doesn't work on the first attempt).
With the side by side (splitscreen) sites in place, start your reply post ... when you get to the point where you want to add the chart from the other post, move the cursor over to the other screen section and right click on the chart.
This should bring a dropdown menu onscreen. Go to the bottom of the menu and left click on "Properties". The menu will disappear, and a Properties window will appear.
Put your cursor/pointer at the very end of the "Address (URL)" code ... (just to the right of .gif ) ... left click and HOLD down the left mouse button (the flashing cursor should be just to the right of "f" in gif & the Properties border at the top should turn blue) ... move the pointer to the left, then up, until the whole address is highlighted (from the http to the .gif).
Now, right click on the highlighted address code, and left click on "Copy" when the menu opens. Left click on OK or Cancel, to close the Properties box.
Come back to the other side of the screen and put your pointer below the text in your post message and left click ( the flashing cursor should be a couple of lines below your typed message) ... then left click on "Paste", when the menu opens.
This will put the address code in your message ... and it will look something like this :

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-1/604697/200.gif

Now ... click on the "Preview Post" button, beneath the Smilie Icons, below the message box. This will open up a "review" post, above the one you're posting in ... and will show you what the final product will look like. Ignore it, for now, and scroll back down to the reply post you're working on. You will notice that the address code now has "URL" brackets on either end. This (url) is what designates the code to show up as a link. If you want it to show up as a picture, then you will need to change the url letters to img letters ... leaving the brackets and / alone. Just left click to the right of url, backspace those letters off, and type img in their place.
Now, the address code should look like this:

When you click on the Preview Post button again ... you should see a picture in the preview post, but you will still see just the address code in your "real" message box. (the preview post message is what your posted message will look like, once you finish with your message & click on the "Submit" button.)
You will, of course, have to repeat the steps for each picture that you want to add to your post.

The new post will have the picture in it, and will show up as :

************************************************** *****
Just so you know .... the actual results, of copy & paste of the properties address code, will show up as http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-1/604697/200.gif .... I just put a space between ) so that you would see the address letters as they will appear in your "real" post message, and not a link. They will show up as the blue lettered link, in the preview post message .... hope that doesn't confuse anyone !!
************************************************** ******

Any questions or problems, when using these instructions ... feel free to PM me, and I'll try and help you work thru it.

OK, if you're trying to post a pic, I would:

1) Put curser on pic
2) Right click
30 Save picture as

Then, when you're replying to the thread, there is a little "paper clip" symbol at the top of your message. Next to that is a little drop down arrow.

Click the arrow
Click "browse"
Select the pic you've saved and click "open"
Click "upload" and close the "manage attachments" box
Click the "paper clip"
Put cursor on the pic and click

That will put the pic in your post.

Are you sure? Unless the thread is closed, you can always "quote" another member, no matter how old the thread is.

Yes ... Wish4fish is correct. There is no "quote" button in the Archives Forum posts. They are essentially closed, and therefore cannot be replied to, so there's no need for one. To quote from a message in the Archives ... you would need to use the highlight/copy/paste method. Even this method would not give you a highlighted quote (like your statements are shown, here) ... but, would only give you the exact words of the original author (like wish4fish's quote above) ... and you would have to add quotations marks, and/or identify the orignal author of the quote, otherwise it would look like it was "you" that was making the statement (or plagierizing someone else's statements).

My bad! When he said "archives", I thought he meant he had done a search and was just referring to an old thread.

I just took a look at the "Archives" forum, and I see what you mean. That was the first time I've ever looked at that forum. No wonder I didn't understand what he meant! :D
