    Cool south Ga. crackers

I went to lake Oliver on the Hooch, yesterday. Old haunts where they normally spawn. No fish. The water temp was in the low 60s. Cant believe it is going to be long now. Caught a few small stripers on ultralight. That was the hi light of my day. Moved up river in the afternoon to lake harding, caught a limit if small crappie, dock shooting. I believe they have moved to deeper water. Got a new fly rod that I want to break in on the crackers. I will keep you posted .

I've still got a lot to learn about fly fishing for shellcracker. Most of mine come inadvertently while casting for bluegill.

When they're not on beds, how do you target them?

Jim Hatch over at FAOL spent a lot of time fishing for them on Santee Cooper. He said a small scud imitation was his best fly by far. I think he's kind of "retired" from fishing, though, and moved on to other things. But he's a kayak man, too, Steve. You two should have a lot in common! Email him or send him a PM.

Getting ready to dig a new pit,got to back fill the pld one.You need to be here. Maggots are free, all you can tote. I will even supply you with free maggot food, you can grow your own. By law we are not suppose to transport that material, but I know an attorney. Think we can det away with it.

Welcome aboard. We are not as heavily populated as the other board but we are just as serious. Please dont wait for some someone to ask, just chime in . I know you have some good stories ,about big fish, old discontinued bait and different techniques that you have experienced in you years. We are all ears. I dont know enough about ff to have many questions. How? Where? When?
