Fixin' to get ready
Between the Covid lockdown and dealing with a bout of Merkel Cell (skin) Cancer and continuing with treatments for my heart, my fly fishing gear has been put up for too long. The sun came out today and lit a fire under my butt and I went through my fly tackle. I found my favorite 9' 3wt and its reel - I may need a new line for that - and took all three of my 5w rods out and put a reel on each one and waggled them. I gave one of my older 5w's to my brother-in-law, so I had to decide which one of the three left I was going to put in the truck. I have a 9' that my brother made - a bit too long and a lot too heavy. Next was a Cabela's Trout rod - nice but a little too stiff - I ended up with my Fenwick 7˝' with a Ross cartridge reel. Just the right balance for some of my bluegill spots that have too many LMB for the 3wt. A trip to the park, with its pond stocked with rainbows is in the offing for tomorrow.

It took me an extra day, but I got out this morning. One 7" stocked rainbow was all I could muster. First fish of the year.

Glad you got out. It is not the number or size of the fish that make for a successfull outing. The question is did you enjoy your day. All fishermen have days that we have great catches and many that are not stellar on catching. Sooner or later that large catch day will come.
Prior to buying a new line clean it and use some comercial cleaner treatment on it. I sold fly fines for years and rejuvinated many throwaways. As long as they are not cracked it is worth a try.
