Road rash fly rod
About a month ago I was fishing for Atlantic Salmon in the Finger Lake tributaries of New York. My rod of preference was my 6 weight Echo 9 footer with a wide spool Redington reel on it. This outfit has serviced my well for over 20 year including several trips to Alaska. At the end of the day I had to put my rod onto the roof of my Buick that had a rack on it. I undressed my boots and such and was ready to put the rod on top of my gear when a man approached me and we got into a great fishing conversation. A few minutes later a young attractive lady entered the conversation also. About 10 or 15 minutes went by before I got into the car then drove off. This was in town with plenty of traffic as it was rush hour. Well I heard a noise and realized immediately I forgot to put the rod back into the car. I hurried to find a parking spot as near as possible. I found the rod and reel. Well part of it anyway. This was the first rod I lost do to stupidity so I guess at 67 yrs. old that is not tooooo bad?

Had a helper throw an extension ladder on the rack of the truck and didn't tie it down. It didn't come off until we were on the interstate doing 70. I heard it start to slide. It layed down on the road and slid until and 18 wheeler ran up the middle of it. Wasn't a whole lot left besides the aluminum rungs and some chunks of fiberglass

I guess ladders and rods can be replaced as long as no one gets hurt.
I did replace it with another Echo. It is the carbon XL 9 ft. for a 6 weight . I fished for and caught some steelhead last week and was pleased with it. However I am more of a traditional fly fishermen and do not like to use a lot of weight and will not chuck and duck. The water was up and a little cool so you had to get your offer ( streamer in my case) down to the fish to get a response. So I had to use fairly large dumbell eyes on the streamers. I look forward to trying it with either no weight or just a very small shot. The rod seems to be of decent quality and priced in a fair moderate way. If looking for a new rod some may consider giving one a try.
