    Default Euro nymphing for crappie

Is anyone else using the euro techniques to warm water fish? I love trout fishing but the closest ones live 5.5 hours from me. I only get to fish up there once or twice a year.

I've been practicing euro style nymphing in our local tail races on the likes of stripes, white bass, crappie, catfish, sunfish, drum and others. Instead of nymphs I normally use marabou jigs as streamers. The jigs are fast and easy to tie so I have no fear of the rocks and wood I normally fish.

I can't wait for the fall and winter rains to start. In one of our tail races, the rains will flood into the willows. A giant edie forms in the channels of the trees and crappie, cats and stripe hold in there. The sighter is going to be deadly on the soft biting winter crappie.

Somehow, I missed this thread. Can you give more details on your tackle and technique?

I've used Czech nymphing techniques for years below dams, using large soft hackles, small clousers, wooly buggers, and streamers along with regular Czech nymphs and small jigs. Always worked well and you never knew what you were going to catch. I use an inexpensive cabelas czech nymph rod I've had for about 10-12 years.
