Default Can anyone tell me which flies are wet or dry?

I got this kit as a gift but I'm new to fly fishing and I dont know which ones are supposed to float and which sink.

I do know I need to buy some fly floatant for my dry flies and a strike indicator for my wet.

All the flies at the top are sinkers. At the bottom, the dry flies start at around the middle and go to the left. (You might have one or two wet flies mixed in with the dries. It's hard to tell on some of them.)

    Lots of good info here:

Thank you!! That gives me something to go off of. I'm going to buy some floatant and a strike indicator today so wanted to fish the correct flies the correct way.

Just FYI: most Walmarts carry small cork poppers and sponge spiders that float without adding floatant. Floatant is only required for the fur/feathers in trout flies.

The spiders and poppers are both bluegill killers. If you can't find them at Walmart, almost any online fly shop (including Bass Pro and Cabelas) carries them.

Again, strike indicators are more of a "trout thing". For bluegill, I suggest forgetting about the strike indicator. (I never use them.) Instead, retrieve your subsurface flies with the figure 8 (hand twist) retrieve:

FWIW, I think the guy in the video is retrieving too fast. Slow it down for bluegill.

Very good to know!! I've gotten pretty good at catching bluegill and other sunfish. Caught my first longear sunfish on the fly rod. Now want something bigger!

Try a small popper for bass.

I do strip technique like streamers with shorter burst and then pauses for blue gill. Kind of like the use of a popper, but below the surface. I'm going to take my rod down to the pond and try the top two retrieves. They will leave the fly in the strike zone much longer than a standard streamer strip. Heck those would work for a slower streamer presentation as well. Thank you for sharing!
