I stumbled onto some videos recently by a guy named Chris Korich. I've heard his name for years, but I heard very little other than his name. He learned fly casting in California with the Rajeff brothers and is a highly respected casting instructor. Anyway ... in his videos, he mentioned that he liked to teach people using older graphite rods and fiberglass rods because they have a softer action, and the student could feel the cast better.

Here are his videos, if anybody's interested:

I picked up a 60’s era Garcia fiberglass fly rod, this past spring, in excellent condition w/ original rod sleeve. Looking forward to putting some gills on the grill one day. Good vid and post.

i was given a 8 ft eagle claw when my father passed. when i replaced the line i realized it was a 8 weight. i soon found out why, with the shorter rod and the heavy line your able to shoot the line in the wind alot easier, plus the fact that its fiberglass gives it a unique feel, i love the rod and every time i use it its like having my pappy with me, keep it and enjoy it.
