I learned the roll cast when I was stationed in New England while in the Army. All the rivers and streams had banks that were heavily overgrown with trees and shrubs making any sort of back-cast impossible. So the only way to cast was to let the fly-line out downstream, and to roll cast up & out and let the fly drift down.

I should use it more often than I do.

As he mentioned in the video, it's really good for getting under low-hanging bushes, etc.

Great post really enjoyed.Live on the White River love fly fishing."Fly's are really hard to hook'LOL.We fish a small flood control lake near our home. Its is a flood control lake 80-100 ac shallow 10' is the ave dept.Full of nice bream, shellcracker's and Crappie.Love fishing this lake with a fly rod popping bug and bream killer. To keep from spooking fish we use the roll cast. This lake is full of grass. The problem we have is with very much wind.We the lake is smooth and no wind is the ticket.Enjoyed post thank's
