    Default The Forecast

Said that I had a three to four hour window this morning. They lied, big surprise. It’s after three and hasn’t rained at all. I believe it’s coming and I didn’t want to dance with that devil. Spot one was a dud but two was a winner. Total today I boated near 30 with very few shorts. Lots of 11 to 12 1/2” fish visited only to be put back for another day. I’m sure I could have had nearly a limit of 25 keepers. Never hot and heavy just steady with a slow spot now and then. This guy showed up to make me think I had the crappie of the century but the head shakes were the giveaway. Got my jig back and said goodbye.

This first crappie let me know they were ready to play. 1/32 jigs with a #6 hook and a panfish assassin body caught the lions share on the Shakespeare micro and a sienna reel with 4lb. They all fought harder than some in recent past, they was frisky!

So I bounced around and did what I normally do but without the weekend spectators. I’m really enjoying the peace and quiet. I’m sure the weather had something to do with it also. I even found a few bluegill. With the full moon not in my favor I didn’t hold much hope but they pulled through for me. So here’s a few pics of the rest of the players that kept me busy til about 11:30 and I headed home with no fish to clean. Met a guy at the ramp with a vintage 60’s 16’ aluminum runabout with a 75hp Merc with 4 cylinders. Low level flight came to mind. Neat rig but I’ll just watch, thank you. Hope y’all get out soon, I’ll be lookin for ya. Til then…..Skeet

And those last two were beasts!! Just had to wait for them to be ready to come my way.

Very nice Tim! I like slow and steady kind of days.

My favorite SbT post ever! Especially the Humpback WHALE The Forecast that you "chumped" to make him CHOMP!?The Forecast
Tim- I easily understand you following the boss's instructions to include Joanie's[real boss, lol]. However, you have the LUXURY of weekday fishin', and you unnecessarily use a fickle-natured woman[Mom Nature] and a Fishing app for a "success gauge"??lol Somebody have a loaner decoder-ring for Slab? The Forecast

The app info was after the fact. I don’t have the luxury to wait for conditions to be in my favor for whatever reason, so I go when I have the time. I’m blessed with a wife that while she won’t join me, she’ll rarely ask me not to go. She knows how much it means to me and also how much it improves my attitude. For her I believe it’s a win-win. She gets some time to herself and a happier me when I get home. Usually hungry and ready for a sandwich somewhere. Sometimes the app confirms a hot fishing time by showing that when I was knockin em in the head that it was during a peak of a major feed. That’s happened a few times. I’ve also blown it apart by doing well when the app says I should’ve stayed home. Point is to make the best of what God has granted you and move on with a smile.

Nice day for sure, but then you dont seem to have many bad ones either.
Just some being better than others.
The places i choose to go the day of the week dosent matter, its usually just me.
And even on the slow days there are some spots i know i can catch one, and some days maybe two.
Problem is that the water has gotten so low i cant even launch my boat at my favorite places.

Thanks Yobuck. Part of the success I enjoy is that I enjoy even the small fish, and they count towards the numbers. I seldom get skunked but it does happen, and I come close sometimes too. If I get a half dozen fish I’m a happy boy. I put back fish in my office for about four years and it eventually got found and they didn’t put em back, so now it’s very different and I’m back to looking around. I hope you get enough water to go and visit some of your places. Up here where the waters deeper, I kinda like when the river slows or even stops. The fish hangout in different places than when it’s running or flooded.

Well i think the small ones hit about as hard as the bigger ones, which is why i prefer having the rod in my hand.
I count all the ones i get into the boat, but not any that dont, regardless of size.
It could be that im finished for the year, as i dont go when every day is in the 90s.
Unless i start traveling further, and i will probably do that at least a few times.
Problem is that i need places that arent crowded so i can have the time i need to launch etc.
And i need the ramp to be close to where i park. Very close is even better.
