Default made a run to the river

It's been a while since I was out. So when thing came together and I found myself with some free time in the morning, I decided to make a run down to the river.

Got up early , loaded the boat, added the cast net and some frozen bait ( just in case) and headed out.

I was the first on to the ramp. launched the boat and took a few throws to see if the was any bait around. got a few but no real big catches. Another boat showed up at the ramp. We headed out in different directions.

With a dozen or two shad in the bait tank I headed to my favorite spot.
I was first one there , set up where I wanted to be and set out the first rod. and waited. and waited. ( should have had some kind of action by now).

Took out the casting rod and tried that. Still nothing. changed lures. several times. Check my live bait. I was gone. re-baited and set out the rod again. action !! went to set the hook and pulled it out. ( note to self). re baited and tried again.

As I was working the casting rod, I noticed some movement on the live bait rod. I reached down and picked it up to feel what was going on. I took in a little slack and lifted the rod tip and the reel started to scream!

I stood there with the rod tip in the air ( kind of ) and let it run. He headed toward some brush but I was able to turn him. I got him close to the boat and reached for the net. He wanted nothing to do with that so off he went again. we did that two or three more time before I was able to put the net in the water but that only got him going again. On the next pass I was able to guide him into the net. I lifted him into the boat and set him on the deck and watched the hook come out.

It was a nice size striper. 21 inches on the money. A personal best for me.

It was the only fish that I caught that day. But for a personal best, I'll take it.

Until next time, tight lines and full nets

    See you on the water

    Jim

another good day at the office !

Those stripers can really pull your string. Exceptional catch. Stripers are excellent table fare. Hope to see some additional Big Striper Adventures before summer catches up to us. Tight Lines.
