    Default Line visibility

Has anybody ever tried to evaluate the better "no see ems" ? A Leader of Flouro-carbon vs. Red mono.Line visibility

Hi Linda- I'm actually referring to the leader that is tied to mainline , which as you said , yellow mono or braid for nice visual while multi-rod long-lining.

Here's the deal. For speck fishing it really doesn't freaking matter. Flouro is invisible in the water and stronger. Mono has some sheen to it underwater but has more "give". If you're fishing open water, I doubt it matters much. If you're fishing heavy cover, I'd say roll with flouro. To each their own, though.

Brentalous- appreciate your insightful response, however, my piscatorial pursuits/posts extend heavily into the much more diverse Brine-arena as well. The real reason I pursued this topic was the fact that RED is the 1st (longest wavelength) color to absorb the light-wave refraction gradient, becoming invisible before the rest of the color-spectrum with ultra-violet being the last to disappear. Also, a newly discovered spool of 15 lb. CAJUN RED added to my curiosity. As Paul Harvey used to say "Now you know the rest of the story"! Maybe, he should have tried your more catchy verbage "Now you know the rest of the freaking deal!

-Hope you're still enjoying the excitement/paycheck @the Speedway...

When I first started trolling I did a test. One side of the boat was clear mono and the other hi vis, 4 rods each. Similar tails on each side also. I found no significant difference trolling jigs. Trolling cranks, I tied braid direct to a duo lock snap and did well for months. Lost too many cranks using the leader. For crappie I find no major difference but other fish, like my gills, like the clear line as light as I can get away with. YMMV

I use green 15 lb braid . The diameter is the same as 4 lb test. I fish pads or in heavy cover so the likelihood of getting tangled up is very high . I have personally found that works best for me , I need the the braid to quickly pull the fish out .

I lived in the keys for 10 years prior to moving to Vero Beach.
I liked free lining for Yellowtails on the reef, and i used 10# red Cajun line on a light action spinning rod mostly for it.
But without a fluro leader you wont get bit very often by the Yellowtails.
Mangroves can be finicky about that as well.

Thx. for the feedback fellas...my real-soon experiment will be an easy-way to combine my want factors(eg.- No-stretch hi-vis main line, 18" leader length from lure) = Hi-vis CHARTREUSE braid that's tied directly to lure. A medium RED magic marker to mark the braided line. I'll also same-day compare it to the same main line but w/18" of 6 lb. flouro...stay tuned.
