Default Help with the St. John’s

Hi there, My father and I have been taking a Crappie trip for the last 25 years. Been to a lot of great places but always seem to come back to Florida. The big O has been a special place but this year looking to give the St. Johns a try. With it being such a large fishery it’s kinda intimidating. Any help as to a starting point would be greatly appreciated. Areas to stay with comfortable accommodations close to a ramp ? Thanks again

Check out Roseus Vacations and click on Welaka Florida (Riverbend Condominiums)as they have 12 units and might have something open as well as Idle Awhile River Resort in Georgetown Florida that has been totally remodeled and renamed. Good luck

Go on line and select Hooked on Headwaters. This is one of greatest secret crappie fisheries in the country. Monster Crappie and Monster Bass everywhere. There are many fishing opportunities close by. This will be a trip to remember. Tight Lines.

While the fishing would be second to none, there would be no close by accommodations.
There is nothing in Fellsmere which is the closest town.
Palm Bay and Sebastion would have lots of choices and would be pretty much the same as for driving time to the lakes mentioned.
There is a nice campground at the I 95 exit for Sebastion/Fellsmere and they might have rental units.
If so that would be the closest accommodations.
The advantage Palm Bay would have is another very large area know as the 3 forks conservation area.
Although they dont show on maps, there are several good lakes within that area other that those shown on maps.
At the very western end of Malabar Rd, which is an exit on I 95 is lake Citori.
Probably the nicest launch facilities of any lake in the region, including Headwaters and Stickmarsh. and never many people, sometimes none.
But its more of a maze than a lake, so not a good place for trollers.
Just to the north of Palm Bay is Melbourne with another I 95 exit at Rt 192.
About 2 miles west of that exit on 192 is a place called Camp Holly, a bar and food place, but they have a ramp for a small fee right on the river.
Only about a mile north is lake Washington and to the south on the river are Sawgrass, little Sawgrass, and Hell N Blazes.
Be very carefull going south however as there are some very shallow places along the way.
I can tell you, you dont have to go to the well known busy places to catch fish.

I also wouldnt rule out Lake Kissimmee.
There are several fish camps on the south end, as well as good camping areas.
Just to the south on the Kissimmee river is a large resort called River Ranch.
They offer everything by way of accommodations including camping as well as a marina and tackle shop with live bait.
From there you could fish both the river or the lake.

Highland fishing camp, backwaters of St.John's close to lake Woodruff, its right down the river from where the Crappie Master winter tourney is.
