Thread: St. John River

I have the same concerns. We have a week planned at the end of Jan, staying at Anglers Riverside Retreat in Astor. I called them Saturday and was told that the river is still up, but it is receding slowly. I was told by a friend, when the hurricane hit, there was a lot of fish floating in the river.

I'm following this to hear what some of the locals will say about the fishing..

Hard to say.
River has gone down about 2’ here in Debary but it was up 6’. Still way over the banks.
And now with Nichole I expect it to go back up at least a foot.
We haven’t experienced a fish kill here yet, but there’s been one over near Geneva/Lake Harney area way to the south.
Those that have been through a couple in the past say it’ll be first of the year before it’s fishable.

It's hard to say about down there.I know in Palatka we have as much water now if not more than during Hurricane Ian and Astor just crested last week. so all that water still has to work itself up through lake George and out through the St John's

If I was y'all, I'd look for somewhere north of Astor, all that water from down south gets bottle necked there and stays flooded a lot longer.
