Awesome story, congratulations and thanks for sharing
The beginning of May a group of us shot up to Perry and grabbed a lodge at Spring Warrior Fish Camp for our bi-annual saltwater fishing excursion. It's a favorite spot of ours to get on some good trout and reds. We were set for 3 solid days of fishing with perfect tides to match. When we arrived early Thursday morning we unpacked and dumped the boats in. Only half of us arrived early so we took my Dad's boat out that morning with myself, Dad and my nephew.
The bite was good! Took a little while to turn on, but when it did we caught fish consistently. Nice sized trout this time of year as well. Didn't land nearly the amount of reds we do in October, though. But we still caught a handful. Thursday was a jam-up time. Wouldn't you know it, as mother nature tends to turn on a dime, Friday morning we were hit with hellacious winds. Nearly 40mph gusts and 30+ sustained. It was bonkers. Even tornado warnings for Tallahassee which wasn't that far north of us.
Since I'm a glutton for punishment, my nephew and I set out first thing to try and see if we could get on them despite the wind. Fortunately we don't stray far from the mouth of the creek anyways when we fish there because it's that great. We landed 4-5 keeper trout, but the bite was clearly slow and the water was dirty due to the winds. We headed in for the day and drank some beer.
Saturday morning the wind backed off just a little, and we all went out (3 boats). But, by then the water was even more dirty than before and you'd be lucky if you pulled in anything other than sailcats. We tried to endure, but then the wind picked back up and we weren't catching anything aside from 1 keeper trout and an undersized red after nearly 5 hours. Went back in, drank some more beers.
The trip was still fun. Got to spend time with family and friends and at least we had 1 good day of fishing. Just goes to show despite what that forecast shows just a couple days before your trip, things can turn south real quick. We'll be back in November, though to give it another go.
