Default got out on the lake yesterday

there was a break in the weather this week so I made a run to the lake. Got there as the sun was coming up. The winds were calm but the forecast was for rain later in the day. I wasn't sure how it would go after talking to a friend who was out the day before and came up empty. But it has been awhile since the boat was in the water and I needed to test her out to see if I had fixed the leak that she developed.

I set out my rods in the normal way but decided to keep it down to only 10 rods. The first pass was for setting up I told my self as not a single rod bent. I turned around and went back over the area just because. This time a rod did bend and I boated a nice slab. Time to do it again !

I wanted to stay close to the river and the ramp just in case the weather man was right. So I just worked the one area.

I picked up several small one but I did have one of my rods take a hard bend and then the tip dove into the water. After a good fight I brought a nice cat to the boat. I let him go. I was able to boat a few more crappie and things were looking good for a fish dinner.

As I was watching the floats following along behind the boat, one of them dipped under the water, It was on one of the long rods, all the way back. Then the rod bent, hard ! It was running across the back of the boat, across all of the other rods. I grabbed the rod and tried to control the fish away from everything. I was able to turn him but boy, he did not want to come up to the surface. He made a hard run out to the side and I just watch line play off the reel. At first I thought that it was another cat, but after a few minutes I started to think that he was running different. I kept playing him and was able to bring him up to the side of the boat and get an eyeball on him. I grabbed the net. It was a striper ! and a big one. He came on board and made my day.

The wind started to pick up after that and I thought it was a good time to head in.

Nice fish. That one crappie is a split tail variety. Something got ahold of it.

Instead of the "one that got away", you played that fish just right into your net SJ, Nice! Heard that enterprise is closed down for a while, is that correct? ...thanks for the post.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes the enterprise ramp is closed for the next 12 to 18 months. City is doing some big project down there.
