    Default Withlacoochee River Report

Been after them pretty hard over the last month over here in Citrus County. Been spending a lot of time in the river this year, which is a bit of a change for me. Since adding a Livescope to my setup I've really been enjoying hunting for structure and finding fish on them. The bite's been a little all over the place and not very consistent. I'm sure these up and down weather patterns have a lot to do with that.

Here are some pictures from one of my most recent trips out. Real gloomy and rainy day, but turned out to be a banner day in terms of the bite. Couple real nice slabbos pushing 15 inches. Strictly vertical jigging outside of weedlines, and if the depth is right -- I'll pull open a few holes here and there. Mid-day seems to be when they're most active right now. I'm sure that'll change as we near towards post-spawn.

Lot of other folks minnow fishing with pretty good luck. Started taking Friday's off work to study the water a bit more. Going to be headed back down to Okeechobee next weekend to fish with my father and hopefully get into a mess of them. Cheers!

Nice catch, post, and appears feline approved.

He sure does! Specks are his absolute favorite treat. Rufio is now 12 years old and has been enjoying the spoils of papaw's fishing since he was kitten. I'll have to get a video of him going bonkers while I'm cleaning fish -- it's both annoying and hilarious.

Some real nice fish you’re getting. I found some Sunday that gave ma a big smile for a couple of days.

We had a female calico that used to meet me in the driveway when I was backing in after fishing. She liked all the strips with bones I would trim out of the fillets and anything else I would drop her way. She lived to be 19 and was a force for anything that walked into the yard to deal with til late in her 17th year. We miss her all the time and have to take a second look every time a calico crosses my path, thinking it’s her.

I'm sorry for your loss. Sounds like she was a great cat to have around! Maybe the specks are the secret ingredient to the long life of a cat!

Nice lookin' fish from my neighborhood(the Cooch) Cat's aren't really my thang, however this one here appears have achieved the#1 outfit for stealth-hunting within the blueberry patch OR been "schooled" in Crappie behavior. Will never be confused as a feline expert but the variety is OBVIOUSLY Calico(Bass)!! Really a looker!!

Seems like every year I read a post from some one living near Inverness that does well on Crappie, especially in the River, I am getting ready to head to NY for the summer. Been saying for 5 years that I need to get to a crappie fest.
